She's spent two decades in showbiz and scaled the heights of Hollywood success.

And Rebel Wilson has now announced a new career peak.

Taking to her Instagram, the 44-year-old funny woman told followers that her first film as director The Deb is set to debut at the high profile Toronto Film Festival.

The Bridesmaids star, who filmed the low-budget comedy musical in country NSW last year, gushed over the prestigious honour in a post on Friday.

'Crikey!' I am beyond emotional and so stoked right now because the movie I've just directed The Deb  has been offered the closing night slot at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival!!!' Rebel said.

'As you guys know I've been working professionally for over 20 years and I would have to say this really is the pinnacle of my career - to be a first time female director and to have this incredible honour is huge.'

She continued: 'This movie is a joyous musical comedy - which is what I'm all about!'

Signing off her lengthy post with a tribute to her cast and crew, Rebel added, 'Aussie, Aussie, Sussie!! So proud of you all and mega excited for us!!'

Rebel also included a gallery of behind the scenes pictures from The Deb set in the post.

In one photo a glamorous looking Rebel can be seen posing with one of The Deb's young cast members.

Another snap shows a chorus of young performers dressed as school girls rocking put a dance routine set inside what appears to be a gothic hall.

Rebel also included another dramatic photo of the cast dancing around a super sized bonfire.

Another picture shows Rebel wearing a bridal veil andclowning with cast members.

The Deb, which stars Rebel and comedian Shane Jacobson, centres on a country school girl getting ready for her debutante ball.

The film will also feature actress Natalie Abbott from the ABC series Aftertaste, as well as newcomer Charlotte McInnes.

Locations include country towns such as Carcoar, Blayney, and Orange, as well as Sydney.

Last October Rebel revealed that she turned down major offers in the States, so she could make her directorial debut Down Under.

'If I was directing a movie it was only going to be in Australia because that's authentic to me,' Rebel told The Daily Telegraph at the time.

'I didn't want to do the studio ones I was offered in America because I didn't feel like I had that heart connection,' she explained.

Rebel, who is based in America, also revealed that she didn't want filming to disrupt her role as a new mother to her baby daughter, Royce Lillian.

'I wanted to bring my family back here because my little daughter, it's her first time in Australia and she is loving it,' Rebel said.

'I've taken her multiple times to see the koalas. Everything is so safe here.'

The performer shares her daughter with her fiancée, Ramona Agruma, who she first met in 2021.

The pair eventually began dating, and they made their red carpet debut in March, 2022.

Wilson later revealed that she had welcomed Royce via surrogate in November.

It comes after Rebel celebrated hitting the number the top ten on the New York Times bestseller list for her tell-all memoir Rebel Rising in May.
